Welcome to Hollies Baptist Church!
As Pastor I want you to know that formality is not our strong suit! You will not be greeted by people "looking down their noses" at you. You will not find a carefully designed manipulative encounter with religion.
You will find, however, a warm, friendly church with a passion for Jesus.
Our first pastor, Elijah Baker, was described as "rough and ordinary and obviously no more educated than any of the rest of them." "He preached loudly and excitedly. He was overflowing with the Spirit. And when he was finished preaching, that was enough for most of the listeners. Ministers after all were not rough uneducated men who preached outdoors on tree stumps." But a few were strangely affected by this man and his excited religion.
Today, following in the footsteps of Elijah Baker, we strive to 'preach loudly and excitedly' about Jesus overflowing with the Spirit and maintaining that same simple faith of Elijah Baker. This church, established by him in 1790, has a very long, proud history and we praise God that we are still seeing the scripture fulfilled which reads,
"But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him" (I Corinthians 2:9).
We hope you will join the entire church family in seeing God's ministry unfold here at this little...
